This is the official 12 hour educational workshop for the Delta Society Pet Partner Program. It combines lecture, discussion, role playing and field training to help you become a successful therapy dog team.

- History of human-animal interaction programs
- Introduction to Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) and Animal Assisted Activities (AAA)
- Handler needs and responsibilities
- Dog needs and responsibilities
- Being your dog's advocate
- Reading and understanding canine body language
- Learn what makes an animal team suitable
- Introduction to medical equipment
- Client/Staff interaction
- Client disorders/disabilities
- Effective Communication Skills
- Types of Facilities
- Preparing for a Visit
- Visiting Protocol
- Infection Control Procedures
- Dog Behavior & Obedience Training
- Mock Therapy Team Evaluations
Prerequisites: Dogs may attend the second day. Any dog that attend must not be dog or people aggressive and have successfully completed a basic obedience class.
